football-1183549_1920 It is with great pleasure I write a small initial introduction to Welshpool Town Football Club Limited’s newly designed website. I can only relate to the past fifty odd years. However, old late club colleagues have given me many stories of the club’s successes and failures going back to the turn of the century. Unfortunately Club records were lost during the last war. A brief history gleaned from old local newspapers is appended below and more will follow as studies continue into local newspaper files.

New Ground Plans On Hold

The club has been forced to put plans for a move to a new stadium on hold this week.

To win a place in the new super league that will be created for the 2011/2012 season the club will need a new 1,000 seater stadium built to UEFA guidelines and have drawn up plans with Welshpool Town Council to take on the lease for the Maesydre extension pitch, currently occupied by Waterloo Rovers.

All clubs in the Welsh League are being forced to improve ground criteria but the Welsh FA and Football Trust have only limited funding available. And this week the club were unable to meet the council’s deadline for signing the lease, blaming a lack of available funding for the half a million pound scheme.
