Nomad Unhappy At Move For Dowridge
GAP Connah's Quay are furious at an alleged attempt by Welshpool to circumvent FAW rules and sign two of their players within 28 days.
The Nomads say they will lodge an official complaint with the FAW after Welshpool served seven days' notice of approach for striker Aden Shannon, and then applied for international clearance to take defender Paul Dowridge from West Cheshire League outfit Blacon Youth to Maesydre.
Chief executive Stewart Roberts told welsh-premier.com that the Nomads had agreed that Dowridge could join Blacon.
"After speaking with manager Steve O'Shaughnessy, it was agreed that Paul should be allowed to play local football at his request, but it now transpires that Blacon had no intention of signing him and that this loophole was being used to facilitate a move to Welshpool.
"This is usually done in cases where the signing club intends to take two players from the same club.
"We know Tomi Morgan is after Aden, but if he has used this loophole to get two players from the same club then the FAW must intervene.
"It goes against the whole transfer system policy if a player can get an English club to obtain clearance for him with no intention of signing and then simply sign for a Welsh Premier team as a free agent the next day," added Roberts.
Earlier today, Welshpool's official website said: "Manager Tomi Morgan is hoping to beat the signing deadline with another two players set to put pen to paper before midnight on Sunday as the transfer window closes - expect the signings to be well known to Maesydre followers."
Dowridge and Shannon both joined Quay in the summer after spending three and four seasons respectively at Welshpool.
