Firstly I would like to thank you for visiting our new look website, and offer you a warm welcome to our club, It is a great honour as chairman of Welshpool Town to join the 21st Century with such a professional and well designed site so many thanks must go to Ryan Williams for his hard work.
Welshpool Town Football Club was first established since 1878, and it is with great pride that the club is still going strong almost one hundred and thirty years later. I would just like to give my appreciation to all who have been involved in the club over the wonderful years.
As many of you will be aware, football has changed a great deal over the years and we are now in an era where football is indeed big business, where matters off the field are as important as those on it. So I would like to give a special thank you to all our sponsors and back room staff for there support which allows the club to stay competing at the top level which brings me on to my next point the team.
The League of Wales has most defiantly grown from strength to strength over the last decade, with Champion’s League and UEFA cup places to compete for; it is very much a respected league. So what an honour it is for a small town like Welshpool to not only be competing in the league but for finishing in the top ten for the last two season, narrowly missing out on Europe last year.
Our Pre-season build up has been very promising, the team spirit and enthusiasm has been fantastic to watch which is great credit to management and coaching from Tommy and Jimmy for the hard work they have been putting in. It has also been good to see the local youth players starting to come through with John Jones and George Hughes impressing throughout. The club have also expanded the squad this year so we are all optimistic at the club for a good season.
The success of the club has very much been a team effort with the club going from strength to strength with the set up of a successful ladies team who have filled our trophy cabinet over the last five year, the Under 21’s side which has allowed us to progress and display our young talent across Wales and the Academy which is know one of the largest academies in the league of Wales developing our stars of the future. It is also a great privilege this season to merge our youth side with Waterloo Rovers to allow the young talent in our area to stay competing at the very top level. So a special thank you once again to all involved.
I would also on the eve of the new season like to wish all the best to the Under 21s, the Youths and the ladies team who are all tipped for success this season so please if time allows go and show your support for them.
With the growing success of the club and the growing support it was very pleasing last year to give something back to the community with the schools programme, which saw us visit local schools to try and get the children involved with the club, a special thank you to Mike Williams and John Oliver for this and please visit the schools programme page on the site to find out more.
It very difficult when writing a welcome to name everybody who gives their time and efforts to the club. So I would just like to conclude by thanking all of the match day officials and you the supporters who our key to the clubs success.
Thank you once again for visiting our website as we look forward to another successful season.
Best Wishes
Steve Hughes
